About The Sandpiper Inn
The Sandpiper Inn has a very rich history, and has been a landmark in the Carmel community for over 80 years. The Inn was built in 1929 by a young German lady named Anne Podein, and her husband Basilico Jesena.
The Inn was originally called the Holiday Inn, and quickly become a favorite among university professors. Eventually, the Inn was expanded to its current size of 17 rooms all with private baths.
When the Holiday Inn hotel chain came to Carmel, the Inn changed its name to the Sandpiper Inn to avoid confusion. The Inn was named after the movie starring Elizabeth Taylor and Richard Burton which was filmed along the California coast including Carmel Point.

The Inn's early California architecture is complemented by country antiques, flower gardens and cozy patios. Each room has been individually decorated giving each a unique charm. Adding to the charm of the inn, several of the rooms feature ocean views, fireplaces and garden views. Several of our rooms have private entrances, enhancing the privacy of staying at a country inn.
